LEDBURY MP, Bill Wiggin has welcomed news that 700 two-year-olds in his North Herefordshire constituency will now receive fifteen hours of free early education per week.

This week it was announced the Government has extended the entitlement of fifteen hours of free early education to the 40 per cent of most disadvantaged two year olds, to help them fulfil their potential in life.

Mr Wiggin said: “I am very pleased this entitlement to free education has been extended. This will greatly benefit the families of 700 two-year-olds in Herefordshire, not to mention the children themselves.

"Evidence suggests that children from less advantaged backgrounds currently start primary school up to 19 months behind their peers. In 21st century Britain this is unacceptable."

He added: "This will help provide 700 children with the very best start in life. This builds on the entitlement of 15 free hours a week already available to all three- and four-year-olds."
