EVERY New Year’s Eve people make resolutions for the year ahead.

While some succeed and others fail, I find it is easier to resolve to actively do something rather than tell yourself that you will immediately stop doing something when the clock strikes midnight.

This year I’m trying to do more for charity.

After writing many stories in 2012 about people around the county doing sponsored runs, walks, cycles, and a whole host of other things, I felt inspired to give more.

This Sunday I’m doing a charity head shave to raise money for two deserving charities - The Sophie Lancaster Foundation and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research - but I intend to do more this year.

There are so many charities out there that it is hard to decide which to support, but one fund-raising campaign I want to support is Beth’s Wish - a campaign launched in memory of 20-year-old Bethan Davies from Belmont, who died of cancer in September last year.

Beth’s Wish aims to raise a minimum of £100,000 to open a dedicated young person’s room at Bartestree’s St Michael’s Hospice.

I also hope to do something for the hospice’s new fund-raising campaign, featured on the front page of this week’s Hereford Times.

So what do you want to do this year? It could be anything - to travel more, to read more, to be more tolerant or to spend more time with your family and friends.

Comment below, and vote on the poll - did you keep your resolutions last year?
