SO the world didn’t end at 11.11am today.

We haven’t been wiped out by a meteor, been infected by some horrible virus that will turn us all in to zombies, and the aliens haven’t invaded.

I’m quite glad the world hasn’t ended - as much as I hope I would stand some chance in surviving a zombie apocalypse, I’m really looking forward to Christmas.

On the way to work this morning a fellow reporter and I were discussing what would happen, not if the world ended, but if things such as electricity stopped working, something upon which we’ve become so reliant.

What if technology was no longer available to us and whenever we were stuck with something, we couldn’t just Google the answer?

What if we couldn’t go on to Amazon to order a book on survival tips?

Hopefully, most people would be able to erect a tent, but most of us would probably end up eating poisonous berries in the first few weeks of the supermarkets running out of food.

So maybe while technology is undoubtedly a good thing, we all need to go back to basics and teach ourselves something simple in the New Year, such as how to sew, how to read a map or even how to put up a tent.

That way you’ll be ready for the next announcement of when the world will end.

Unless they meant 11.11pm tonight...
