IT took just one session of chemotherapy for Sue Taylor to start raising money for the cancer unit she never got to see open.
Sue died in July with the opening of Hereford County Hospital’s Macmillan Renton Unit in sight, her own fight with cancer had been short.
The £206 raised in Sue’s name by family, friends and colleagues was donated to the Wye Valley NHS Trust Oncology Trust Fund this week.
Sue was one of the trust’s stalwarts having worked there for 12 years, starting as a nursing auxiliary nurse on Treherne ward at the old General Hospital – which was then the a stroke rehabilitation unit.
There she fast made a name for herself in caring, motivating and encouraging patients.
When the General hospital closed, Sue transferred to Wye ward at the County to work hard as both an auxiliary nurse and later as a housekeeper.
When Sue was first diagnosed with cancer she was afraid of going to the oncology unit for assessment and chemotherapy treatment, but was soon reassured by the friendly welcoming and supportive staff there.
Although Sue only had one session of chemotherapy she decided that day to try and raise money for the new unit, only to die before it was opened.
