THE people behind a new craft stall in Hereford Butter Market want to improve the public’s understanding of mental health conditions.
Behind the project are the Service Users Mental Health Education Team (SUMET), whose monthly stall will combine creating and selling crafts to get their message across. They are hoping to change the perception of people with mental health issues by seeing them in a normal environment, making useful and beautiful things locally.
As a longer term project, they want to open their own craft workshop in one of the empty shops in Hereford.
Their first stall in the Butter Market in January raised £217 and they hope for even more support at the next one on Friday, March 26.
Members of SUMET also want to talk to other groups about their experiences to help dispel what they call ‘myths’ around people with mental health issues.
Anyone interested in being involved, or to offer craft items or donations, can call 01981 251414.
