Care support focus for Herefordshire carers

SHAPING the future of caring services was the main topic of discussion at a Herefordshire Carers Support conference.

The annual event is becoming more popular and there is already a waiting list of those wanting to become involved next year.

At the moment there are 2,400 registered carers in the county, but it is estimated that 20,000 people are actually caring for people in some way.

One of the key issues discussed at the conference was the relationship between those who provide the services and those who receive them.

Baroness Jill Pitkeithley, a founder of the organisation Carers UK, gave a talk on the growing carers movement and agreed to become a Patron of Herefordshire Carers Support.

Herefordshire Carers Support is urging more carers to register, saying bigger numbers would give the organisation extra strength.
