WHEN it comes to thinking about things to do during the summer holidays it’s very easy to forget about the attractions to be found close to home.

And in Hereford Cathedral there are unique treasures to be seen, with the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library exhibition an internationally acclaimed visitor attraction.

Housed within Hereford Cathedral’s 15th-century south west cloister and the award-winning New Library Building, the exhibition reveals the secrets of the Mappa Mundi, the largest and most elaborate complete pre-15th century world map in existence, using models, original artefacts and the latest interactive computer technology.

Visitors can also see the world’s largest surviving Chained Library, containing more than 1,500 rare books dating from the eighth to the 19th centuries.
