Weobley

GARDENING SOCIETY - Weobley and District Gardening Society held its summer show on Saturday. Entries were well up on last year and there was a dazzling display of flowers.

Prize winners are as follows: Pain Cup (most overall points in vegetable and flower classes), Sue Carpenter, who also claimed the RHS Banksian medal; Culinary Shield, Rosemary Holmes-Smith; Birchby Cup for handicrafts, Ivy Stokes; Rose Bowl for floral arrangements, Anne Cole; Kingsland Cup for best flower, Arno Friedl; Rosette for best vegetable (shallots), Jeff Aldridge.

BOOK SIGNING – A throng of children, parents and grandparents were at Hopelands for the launch and signing of Weobley resident Rosemarie Lefevre-Maiden’s new book Cherry Tree Farm. The 116-page book includes 10 illustrated stories about the adventures of woodland and farm animals. The book makes for ideal bedtime reading and is sure to become a firm favourite – not too short or too long, but just right. The pages are large, the type face large and easy to read with many of the 50 coloured illustrations full page. It is priced £7.
