FLOWER FESTIVAL - Villagers wanted to do something a little different this year. “We are only a small community so don’t have the resources to man big displays and marquees,” said churchwarden Janet Bumford. St Peter’s Well is next to the church of Saints Peter and Paul, so was born the idea of a well dressing. The idea came from Diane Pritchard who grew up in the east Midlands and remembers the Derbyshire well dressings from her childhood. “Rather than trying to replicate those very intricate displays, we have gone for our own Whitney take on the well dressings,” she explains.
The themed displays this year are based on anniversaries so the well dressing will be 250 years since Galileo first mapped the moon, 2009 also being the year of astronomy. The flower festival runs from Saturday to Sunday, from 10am to 5pm, and includes various stalls, a childrens treasure hunt and refreshments at the village hall.
