ALL-WEATHER SPORTS PITCH – An open meeting will be held to discuss the pitch next Tuesday at East Radnor Leisure Centre at 7pm. MYSTERIES OF STAPLETON CASTLE Trefor Griffiths, owner of Stapleton Castle, is busy planning his public tour of this historic site this weekend as part of the national Archaeology Week. The tour will take place on Sunday at 2.30pm, and is organised by the Council for British Archaeology and supported by English Heritage. Tea, coffee and cold drinks will be available and you can even take a picnic and make an afternoon of it. Spaces are limited and tickets can be purchased from the Judge’s Lodging at £4 for adults and £2.50 for under-16s. All proceeds are kindly being donated to the Judge’s Lodging museum fund.

ROD STEWART– A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY – On Friday, August 29, at Presteigne Memorial Hall, there is a cabaret evening featuring The Rod Stewart Experience, a look-alike artist from the West Midlands. The evening will consist of a two-course, waitress served meal followed by ‘Rod Stewart’ along with a 60s/70s disco. This event is strictly ticket-only (no money will be accepted on the night), costs £21 per person and can be booked from Alan Randell on 260485 or Dot Griffiths on 267806. Why not get together with friends and book a table of eight to yourselves?

CHARITY QUIZ – Quiz sheets to raise funds for the Hypermobility Syndrome Association ( HMSA) are now on sale at £1 each. They are available from the PNCS charity shop, Emily’s tearoom, Winnie’s newsagent and Anne’s fruit & veg shop in Presteigne and Spar in Knighton. The closing date for entries is July 18.

EVERGREEN – The Evergreen Club is organising a trip to Aberystwyth on Wednesday, July 23. To book, or for more information, call Pat on 260823.

FOOTBALL CLUB – Presteigne Football Club has started pre-season training at John Beddoes School field every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm. The team is playing the following pre-season friendly matches: next Tuesday, away at Pegasus at 7.30pm, Friday, July 18, against Orleton (at Ludlow in the Ludlow Cup) at 7.30pm, Tuesday, July 22, at home against Westfields at 7.30pm, Saturday, July 26, home to Sutton at 2pm, Tuesday, July 29, away to Leominster at 7.30pm.

Saturday, August 2, is a club day where all the teams will be playing each other with a view for players to be considered for the first team. The matches will be at home to Builth at 2.30pm.

TABLE SALE – The Friends of Lingen Church are holding a table sale in the village hall on Saturday, July 19, from 2pm to 5pm. There will be books, automobilia, bric-a-brac, refreshments, and much more. To book a table, call Pete Lloyd on 267586.

AGM – The Presteigne Little People’s Playgroup is holding its AGM at The Radnorshire Arms tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

SWIM FOR ASTHMA – It’s back! Swim for Asthma will take place at East Radnor Leisure Centre on Monday, July 21. Sponsorship forms are now available from Marie at the centre or by calling 260302. You can swim with your family or on your own and swim as little or as much as you want. Any age is welcome, but under-eights must be accompanied by an adult. This year, they want to raise £1,500 for the charity, beating last year’s total of £1,000.

NICK CLEMENT – Don’t forget that Nick Clement will be at The Assembly Rooms tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm telling stories, films and having discussions on the new age of men. Tickets are £7 and are available from the Judge’s Lodging on 260650.

SANKEY EVENING – There is a Sankey evening at Yardro Chapel on Sunday evening at 6.30pm. All are welcome.

OUTING – There is a shopping trip to Telford next Wednesday. Call 260820 for details.

ENTERPRISE SALE – The children of Presteigne Primary School are holding an enterprise sale in the school hall tomorrow (Friday) at 2pm. They will be selling charms, sweets, jellewery, popcorn and much more. Please pop along and support this event.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES – There is a summer activities week at East Radnor Leisure Centre from August 4 to 8, for children in the current school years 5 to 9. Children will be able to try a wide range of activities including basketball, netball, rounders, football and athletics plus many more. Transport can be provided from Builth, Llandrindod Wells and Knighton. The cost is £40 with transport and £30 without transport. Local poet Roz Goddard will be discussing her newly published poetry collection How to Dismantle a Hotel Room. Everyone is welcome.

TEA INVITATION – You are invited to drop in for a cup of tea at Greendale House in Slough Road this Saturday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm. Any donations will be given to the Scleroderma Society. OPEN GARDENS – There will be a fete and open gardens at Evencoyd Court this Sunday afternoon from 2.30pm. There will also be a songs of praise in the garden at 5.30pm. All proceeds will go to church funds.
