RAISING MONEY IN THE RAIN - BIG-hearted supermarket staff have raised cash for an airborne charity with a land-based challenge. A fair bit of water was involved too as ladies from Asda in Hereford rode children’s scooters from Ross-on-Wye to Hereford in the pouring rain. Colleagues Esther Powell, Karen Davies, Sam Toomer, Julie Preece, Tracey Pocknall and Deb Hudd were joined by 14-year-old Amber Pocknall and 16-year-old Kaite Hudd (all pictured) for the stunt. The group, who get together every year to raise funds for the store’s chosen charity, hope to have raised £300 for the County Air Ambulance. After arriving back at Asda, the girls gave away the scooters to children in the store.

CONCERT – A concert in the Great Hall of the Bishop’s Palace in Hereford on Saturday will feature Ann Gall, a mezzo-soprano who sang for many years with the English National Opera. She has also appeared with the New Sadlers Wells Opera and Kent Opera. Born in Lancashire where she is now based, Ann graduated in fine art at Birmingham College of Art and taught art before becoming a professional singer.

At this concert Ann will be singing a mix of secular and sacred songs. While a student, she became a Christian and, between some of her songs, will be saying a little about how her Christian faith has impacted on her life. She will be accompanied by a brilliant young pianist, Philip Miles, who has recently graduated from the Northern College of Music. He will also be playing two solo items.
