HOSPICE FUND-RAISING - There will be a coffee morning at the Tea Rooms at 10.30am next Thursday, September 3, in aid of St Michael’s Hospice. There will be a plant stall, cake stall, bringand- buy and raffle. Come and guess the height of the sunflower.

PARISH COUNCIL - The August meeting was held in the Memorial Hall with Coun Paul Sheen in the chair. Also present were Herefordshire councillor J B Williams and Community Support Officer Katie Middleton. Village notice board: tenders are being sought for a new village notice board. Recreation ground: it was reported that there were still problems regarding dog control and dog fouling in the sports field and in the village. Suspension of standing orders: it was decided to suspend all standing orders to allow all agenda items to be discussed. A46 Pontrilas Junction: the clerk would inform Herefordshire Council of concern at the growing number of signs being put up around this junction. The next parish newsletter is due for publication in September and the next parish council meeting will be at the Memorial Hall on September 1, at 7.30pm.

TABLE TENNIS - Eardisley Table Tennis Club is about to start its winter season. The club meets on Tuesday evenings in Eardisley Village Hall and plays throughout the winter starting on September 1. They will be playing through to the end of March 2010. Joe James, on 01544 327636, is the man to contact for more information.

SHOW - The Eardisland Village Show will take place on Saturday, September 5, in the village hall. There are many interesting categories including handicraft, photography, art, creative writing, wine making, floral art, cookery and a children’s section with a chocolate prize for each child. The schedule and entry forms are available in the current parish magazine or from the Tea Rooms Please deliver your completed entry forms by 5pm on August 28, to Diane Wolland 01544 388981, Esther Simpson 01544 388641, Gill Richards 01544 388323, Dian Cope 01544 388317 or any other member of the committee. SAVE THE PANTO – Following the retirement of the musical director of the Little Theatre Group Val Whiston after 20 years’ superb service, director Paul Davies is still looking for a very special person to replace her and to work together with him and the cast for this year’s pantomime. A sense of humour, flexibility and imagination as well as the ability and agility to play the piano to the demands of panto mayhem are essential. Rehearsals begin mid- September, travelling expenses could be paid. If you have the expertise and would like to join this friendly group and save the annual pantomime, which has run every year since 1973 without a break, call either Paul Davies on 01544 327052 or secretary Val Lewis on 01544 327700. New members are always welcome to join the cast.

MEDIEVAL PAGEANT – Held in and around Ewyas Harold Castle, the pageant was a great success, despite the showery weather, with a falconry display, maypole dancing, craft workshops, a chance to try archery skills, skittles and, best of all, a battle for the castle. There was plenty to eat and drink with a hog roast and local ice cream supplied by Rowlestone Farmhouse, washed down with local Gwatkins cider. All proceeds went to local charities.
