TEAM APRESSCI – Claire Guy, nee Mauruschat, of Kentchurch, is cycling with four other riders from London to Edinburgh and back between July 26 and 31, in order to raise money for a new purpose-built research facility at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, home to the world famous National Spinal Injuries Centre. The team is hoping to raise enough money to create an international research centre of excellence to further the understanding of living with and managing spinal cord injury and to investigate new treatments to improve the quality of life of those who suffer this catastrophic injury.

Claire works in the rehabilitation unit at Stoke Mandeville and has been practising for the marathon ride by cycling 50 miles each day and 100 miles on Saturdays and Sundays; on the ride she will be riding 146 miles daily. She and her team are looking for sponsorship at justgiving.com/apressci ORGAN MUSIC – On Saturday, the first of four coffee concerts will take place in Dore Abbey with Peter Noke, performance tutor at Lancaster University, as guest organist. Coffee is served at 11am and the performance begins at 11.30am. This is the fifth year this event has been organised.

CREAM TEAS – Every Sunday in August, teas will be served in St James’ Church, Llangua, from 2-5pm.

EWYAS HAROLD WALKERS – On August 6, the destination will be Kilpeck, a distance of about four miles.
