Eardisley


ANTIQUES – Tomorrow (Friday), there is to be an antiques valuation evening in the village hall. Conducted by Philip Baldwin of Brightwells, the event starts at 7.30pm. Admission is £4, which includes a buffet supper. One item per person, with a fee of £1 payable at the door. There will be soft drinks available, or guests can bring their own wine. Proceeds will be put towards a toilet for disabled people visiting the Methodist chapel. Tickets are available at Central Stores. For more details, call Vanessa Woodcock on 01544 327835.

SOCIAL WHIST DRIVE – The last in the series of social whist drives took place at the New Strand on June 29.

Philip Jenkins, together with his wife Rona, have run this very successful series and a new run will begin on Monday, September 28, at 7.45pm.

CHURCH – There will be a coffee and cake morning at St Mary Magdalene Church on Saturday. Meanwhile, July 18 is the Eardisley Church gift day.

You are invited to the church between 10am and 4pm for the launch of the Friends of Eardisley Church, which it is hoped will carry our heritage into the future. There will be music, flowers, presentations and literature. Visitors will note the tidy state of the churchyard, which is the result of the efforts of Peggy and Carmen Lloyd. They would appreciate help.

CHRISTIAN AID – During Christian Aid Week, £471 was raised, which will be spent in helping the world’s poorest communities.

MENINGITIS TRUST – Once again, the Terry family held a successful coffee morning for the trust, raising £420.

WORLD MEDICAL FUND – Another successful charity event in Eardisley raised £540 for the World Medical Fund for Children. Hosts Eileen and Doug Spencer wish to thank everyone for their support.

HAPPY HATTERS – On Saturday, from 10am until 4pm, a sale of hats and accessories for all occasions will take place in Eardisley Village Hall.
