Hereford Sea Cadets
12:00pm Thursday 1st July 2010 in News
MICHAEL Watkins of Shrewsbury is showing the young sea cadets of Hereford what can be achieved with dedication and commitment and hard training. Michael, aged 26, takes part in many runs, bike rides and parachute jumps and in March completed an Ultra 30 Wye run in Herefordshire. He is now training for the Lakeland 100 run which he is taking part in from 5.30pm on July 23. The tour is a 100-mile circuit visiting many of the most picturesque valleys and dales that radiate out from the high central fells like the spokes of a wheel and includes in the region of 6,300m of ascent. In some places the paths have all but disappeared into the mire. The organisers allow up to 40 hours for competitors to complete the full course but Michael is aiming to finish in less than 24 hours.
Michael has long links with Herefordshire as his father Paul grew up in the county and his grandmother Pat Watkins still lives here. Michael is running to help Hereford Sea Cadets raise funds for their new unit on the banks of the River Wye in Hereford. To sponsor Michael or make a donation to the building fund, contact Liz Morawiecka on 01432 264091.
