THE AGM of Llanbister WI took place during their November meeting. This started with the minutes being read from the last AGM this was agreed and signed. The Treasurer’s report gave a satisfactory balance and stated that the payment for Gift Aid 2008 was still outstanding. The Secretary gave a review of the last year’s meetings and speakers as well as other events including those at county level.
The President Barbara Gayther thanked everyone for their help and support mentioning all the officers.
Officers elected were President Barbara Gayther, Vice President Pam Ruck who was also elected Programme Secretary, Treasurer June Pettit, Secretary Olwen Wilson, Minutes and Press Secretary Olwen Bowen, Competitions Lil Lewis and Val Thomas, Raffle Anita Threadgold, Auctioneer Maureen Gayther and Community Hall Rep Val Thomas.
The business part of the meeting followed. President Barbara Gayther announced that the WI had won the Millennium Prize at the Chinese auction. The report form was filled in there were seventeen members during 2008. From the County Letters interest was shown in the soup and solutions meeting on Friday, January 9. Provisional details of the County Show 2009 were read out. All members agreed that the surplus money collected in 2007 would go towards ‘clean water for all’. Ideas for speakers were put forward. Members filed in a menu sheet for the Christmas dinners and the prize money for the 2008 monthly competitions was agreed on. June Pettit said she had been asked for her painting done at a recent WI workshop to go on exhibition.
Barbara Gayther won the mystery prize and hostesses were Lil Lewis and Irene Goodman.
Lil Lewis showed members a long crochet dress which she had made for ‘Tomorrows heirlooms’This was a beautiful garment which also had many hundreds of beads and decorations.
The Competition for a pink small floral arrangement was won by Lil Lewis, second Irene Goodman and third Maureen Gayther.
