THE speakers at our October meeting, Jane Layton and Caroline Bufton, explained how their business “C J Jewellery & Accessories” developed from their hobby of making costume jewellery, and in two and a half years grew into a successful enterprise. With advice from a friend with a business flair, they added scarves and bags, invented a logo and travelled round exhibiting at craft fairs and shows, gave jewellery parties (like Tupperware parties) in homes and WIs and now exhibit in permanent displays in local farm and craft shops. Several of our members were tempted to buy from the enticing display they had brought with them. Julie Button, our President, thanked them and asked them to judge our competition for “a favourite scarf”, won by Glenys Mills, with Irene Phillips second and Phyllis James third.
Hostess, Gill Duberley, and helpers served refreshments before our business meeting, in which we discussed our 2009 programme, visits to the autumn council meeting, international evening, and quiz at the autumn group meeting, nominations for our new committee and officers, and the successful buffet lunch for 51 National Trust members at the beginning of October.
Julia thanked those who had helped with this, this meeting’s hostess and Irene for the flowers.
Our next month’s meeting is our AGM.
