OUR first October meeting began with a “get to know you” session organised by Val Twigg. Being a large group (over 70 members) it is easy to talk to those people you know and not get to know other members. Judging by the amount of conversation, lots of new friends were made and everyone felt involved. This was followed by an excellent Harvest Supper organised by Doreen Foster, Betty Williams and other committee members; another opportunity for lots of chatter.
Later in the month we welcomed Mike Pullen of the Hospice Angels who told us of the many and varied ways his team raises money for St Michael’s Hospice. This includes taking a horse and carriage between Ledbury and London and we saw a video of the journey. We noticed particularly how calm and controlled the horse was as he made his way through London traffic to Hyde Park. Cards and calendars were on sale and a collection made for the hospice. Gwenda Lowry gave the vote of thanks.
