Peter Faulkland returned to our guild meeting this time to talk about coracles. He told us about the types used on different rivers and the differing materials used in their construction.
We were able to see the beautiful basket which forms the framework and the intricate work involved in making the skin covering.
The vote of thanks was given by Terri Smith. Later in the month, we had a very sociable evening shared with members of Whitecross Guild when we had games and competitions, strawberries and cream – and lots of chatter! Our delegate, Anita Davenport, and some observers are shortly going to Torquay for the national annual general meeting, which is a wonderful opportunity to meet Townswomen from all over the country.
Thanks to Mary Hale from Whitecross Guild; they are staying on for a short holiday in Devon.
September will be the start of the autumn programme, but in the meantime we look forward to an outing to Kilpeck, our summer dinner at Oakchurch, the annual ramble, and our outing to St Fagans. Anyone interested in joining our guild should come to Hampton Dene school at 7.30pm on September 2.
