HEREFORD Wye Valley Rotary Club recently organised a special ‘Evening with John Challis’ at Hedley Lodge. Some 140 guests enjoyed an entertaining talk and anecdotes by ‘Boycie’ on his 40-year career in the theatre and TV. He answered many questions particularly about Boycie in Only Fools and Horses and his co-stars, plus his recent series as Farmer Boyce in The Green Green Grass. This is based around his home in Wigmore where he and his wife came to live a few years ago. The event raised funds for St Michael’s Hospice and the Rotary’s own charity, Shelter boxes. Shelter boxes, at around £500 each, contain a tent sleeping 10 with sleeping bags, ponchos, cooking stove and utensils plus water containers and purification tablets. They are despatched around the world as a Rotary gift. Hundreds are sent each year to disaster areas. St Michael’s Hospice will receive half of the profits, around £650, from the evening.
