THE children attending the Dilwyn Playgroup have been painting their own flower pots and nurturing seedlings as their contribution to the village entry in the Britain in Bloom competition, which will take place on July 24.

PARISH MEETING – At the parish council meeting, there were four councillors present and five members of the public attended. During public participation, it was reported that there were youngsters on the playing field drinking during the evenings. Clerk will write to police explaining drinking was occurring on a regular basis and the council would like the playing field and village hall car park to become a no drinking zone. The village hall committee also agreed to write.

SHOW – Clifford Show is on Saturday at the Community Centre from 2pm- 6pm. Events include children’s dog show, stalls, games, fairground organ, chain saw sculpture, Bob Rowberry’s wind sculpture, bouncy castle, Hugh Peachey’s gipsy caravan, face painting, food and drink. A hog roast, cream teas and Shepherd’s ice cream. There will also be competitions for floral arrangements, fruit, veg and arts and crafts. Entries for the latter to reach the hall by 11am on Saturday.

FETE – Sunday from 11am to 5pm on Roman Park. Attractions include vintage vehicles, stationary engines, model displays, beer mat draw, dog show, stalls and children’s competitions.

FAMILY NIGHT OUT – Dilwyn Support Group for St Michael’s Hospice invite you to join them for Music in the Marquee on Sunday at Alton Court, by permission of Stuart and Anna Wellings. Bring your own picnic and drinks from 5pm. Try your hand at skittles or the raffle and dance to live music by Wylden between 6-10pm.

PARISH PLAN – An open meeting will be held on Sunday at 4.30pm in the village hall to discuss possible action plans to be included in the final parish plan for Dorstone. The steering group has been analysing results of the questionnaire and has also held discussions with various committees in the parish, the parish council and officials of Herefordshire Council.

PLAYGROUP-The children attending the Dilwyn Playgroup have been painting their own flower pots, and nurturing seedlings as their contribution to the village entry in the Britain in Bloom competition which will take place on July 24th. Three year old Ashleigh Williams is pleased to report that their first strawberry has now been harvested. The children are also keen to participate in fundraising events as well and have recently paid £1 each to bring a favourite toy to a teddy bears picnic in the school grounds as part of ‘The Huge Challenge’ supporting Paddington Bears favourite charity the Touching Tiny Lives Appeal. Group Supervisor Stephanie Daniel joined Dilwyn Playgroup in November last year and has seen enrolment rise to 26 children. There will be a few spaces available at the start of the September Term, when some of the children transfer to the junior school. Children would be welcome to attend on a trial basis; parents should call in any weekday morning or telephone 07975 994309.

SUMMER FETE – On Saturday. July 11, from 2pm, the annual Docklow Church fete will be held at Docklow Manor by kind permission of Jane and Brian Viner. The manor is just off the A44 from Leominster to Bromyard, about five miles from Leominster.

ROUNDERS TOURNAMENT – The rounders tournament was a huge success with a good turnout and Louise and Charles managed to feed everyone with delicious barbecue food.

A STRAWBERRY STROLL – Come for a stroll in the beautiful country around Credenhill. Meet at the church gate on Saturday at 2pm. After the walk, stop for a strawberry tea in St Mary's chuchyard, £3 per person. All proceeds for St Mary's Church.
