ANNUAL GARDEN FETE – On Sunday, St Michael’s Church, Breinton, is holding its annual garden fete at Breinton Court (by kind invitation of Mr and Mrs P Hands) from 2.15pm to 5pm, with stalls, games, attractions, a raffle, cream teas and ice cream. Admission is £1.50, children under 12 free. Everybody is most welcome – the perfect way to spend a late summer day.
PARISH COUNCIL – As the village hall management committee has concerns about fly-tipping and does not feel the village hall site is suitable for the Parish Freighter, it was agreed to ask the parochial church council whether church land can be used.
Jobs for lengthsman are to clear the hedges encroaching on the new oak tree near Halfway House, install reflectors on the supports of one of the new noticeboards, install a handrail down the steps to the bridge of the Wye Valley walk. Later in the year, he will be asked to review all drains and grips in the parish.
Jobs for highways include repairs to two potholes outside Woodview, replace the grit box destroyed by hedge trimming at the junction of Breinton Lane and the upper road, act on the letter from a Breinton Common parishioner stating that the road out of the village is in danger of collapsing, possibly due to a blocked drainage pipe.
At a review of parish plan, as one of the main concerns of parishioners is speeding, it was decided to inquire about the feasibility and cost of installing a temporary speed indicator device on the Brecon Road as it descends to the junction with Breinton Lane. The clerk is to write to the footpaths office once again about the missing barrier across Green Lane and to enquire about the state of the damaged water main in the area. Ward councillor’s report: discussions are under way about the possibility of a mini roundabout at King’s Acre Halt to facilitate the junction with the A480 to Stretton Sugwas and he has asked that a footway to Stretton Sugwas along the A480 from King’s Acre Road should be programmed into next year’s budget.
A £30,000 upgrade to the footpath known as Church Walk from Green Lane to King’s Acre Road has been approved and work will begin soon. Planning: Attenuation Pond at Warham Court Farm. At a recent planning meeting, it had been agreed that such a pond is a good idea in principal, but members are worried about the proposed site, so close to existing neighbouring properties. Members asked for the pond to be resited. The applicant’s agent stated that if the pond could not go where it was proposed, then the application would be withdrawn. The concerns are that this pond was part of the whole drainage plan for the farm, that a drainage plan had not been seen, despite the fact that it was a condition of starting the building work, and that using existing drainage arrangements would not be adequate for the amount of storm water envisaged. Other concerns were expressed about the run-off from the slurry pit which would now discharge into a field no longer owned by the farm. The clerk is to write to the planning officer again, expressing these concerns.
