LOTTERY – Ann and Andrew Culley won £25 with their number 42.

SOAP BOX WINNERS – Ian Astley (winner) and Barry Megson (second) led the field of 35 racers at Mansell Lacy last Sunday, and never looked in danger of being threatened. Ian had an aggregated time of 2 minutes, 4.4 seconds and Barry, 2 minutes, 5.11 seconds. The Vauxhall machine from Suffolk called Nimbus came third.

SAVE OUR RED BOX – The telephone box has stood in the middle of Bishopstone since 1958 and is a focal point for the village. BT is threatening to take it away because it is not used enough. Concerned villagers asked the parish council last week to save it and they have written to English Heritage in an attempt to have it listed as an historic building.

FUNDS BOOSTED – The ladies’ committee from Bishopstone Church sold homemade cakes and bric-a-brac on Sunday at the soap box derby and raised £230.

PLAYING FOR WALES – James Astley, the grandson of Pat and Ian Astley, has been selected to play for Wales hockey team in the Four Nations Tournament to be held in Edinburgh shortly.
