Over the last couple of years volunteers at Merbach Hill Common have put in a great deal of effort into opening up the network of paths which had become very overgrown.

Recently, our work has concentrated on a public footpath running up through woodland in the north-eastern corner of the common. Trees and branches blocking the path have been cut back. At one steep and slippery section we are currently installing a flight of steps using timber supplied by local craftsman woodworker Chris Armstrong. A great deal of care has been taken to align and install the steps correctly and we are pleased with the results so far. It is hoped that by the end of the summer, the flight of steps will be complete encouraging more people to make the walk through this beautiful and tranquil stretch of woodland.
