PRIMARY SCHOOL - 150th anniversary celebrations 1858-2008. Whitchurch School plans to celebrate in style with a grand marquee in the school grounds, which will be the venue for a week of celebratory events. All the children have been busy designing and sewing a tapestry with the help of teachers, parents and friends. The pupils in Rowan have been researching the history of Whitchurch School and will use the evidence gathered to produce a DVD. They have looked at original documents and were particularly interested in the punishment book! To add further depth to their studies the children recently interviewed past staff and pupils. The school hall was full of lively discussions with memories shared and comparisons made. The school now looks forward to the commemorative photograph on May 19, and invites all former pupils and staff to the school for the special event. On July 1, the Bishop of Hereford will re-bless the school, and on July 2, a celebration day will take place. A music concert will follow on Friday, July 4, and the week will culminate on Saturday with parties for children and adults. For further information, call 01600 890571.
