MEMBERS from nine Herefordshire clubs will be demonstrating their hedgelaying skills at the Annual County Hedging Match on Sunday.
The match is moving to Orchard Farm, Bosbury, near Ledbury, and is hosted by Mr and Mrs Bernard Powell.
Competitors are required to stake, pleach and heather a specified length of hedge in the time allowed.
There are classes for individuals or for a team of two working together.
The pairs aided class has attracted 12 teams and offers members the chance to improve their skills with hands-on assistance from experienced hedgelayers.
The unaided pairs classes for under- 26s and under-21s will see a further 11 teams competing.
Graham Richards, county chairman, said: “I have competed in the hedging match for many years and it is my favourite YFC competition.
“A well-laid hedge is not only stockproof but also provides a vital habitat for the wildlife population, and enhances the beauty of the diverse Herefordshire countryside.”
The Agricultural Valuers Association Trophy will be awarded to the club gaining the highest marks in all classes.
The Pencombe Agricultural Society Cup will be awarded to the club gaining the highest marks in classes two and three.
Hedging will begin at 9am and hedge sections should be ready for judging early afternoon. Admission is free.
