A CLEAN sweep of national awards shows no-one pips Lower Hope Farms when it comes to cherries. The Ullingswick grower won all the major trophies in the recent National Cherry and Soft Fruit Show held at the Kent County Showground.
Among the wins were the coveted champion basket challenge cup and three other championship cups. In all, Lower Hope Farms won first prize in all the five classes its cherries entered.
Lower Hope owner Clive Richards said he was delighted to have shown the fruit world that Herefordshire produce was second to none. He saluted the “team effort” it took to earn the awards, singling farm manager Simon Wells and Andy Hunt, head of the fruit enterprise, out for particular praise.
Lower Hope Farms is the leading UK cherry grower and the largest supplier of cherries to Marks and Spencer and Sainsburys.
