Herefordshire Council giving leaflets aimed at farmers

FARMERS and their contractors are to be given leaflets advising them how to keep the county’s roads safer.

Herefordshire Council will be handing them out at Hereford Cattle Market on Wednesday, August 4.

The care and safety of the highway campaign is being launched by the council’s road safety team and its contractors, Amey.

They say agriculture is one of Herefordshire’s major industries and farmers and their contractors share the highways with other road users.

The leaflets inform them of their duties, with suggestions on how they can help keep roads safe. They also give contact details to deal with problems such as fallen trees and flooding and the use of correct farming signs.

Councillor Brian Wilcox, cabinet member for highways and transportation, said the council was keen to work in partnership with farmers and their contractors.

However, the information and advice is directed at others too.

“With hedges, trees and bushes having grown rapidly over recent weeks, property owners in both urban and rural areas are asked to trim back any vegetation which may be protruding onto pavements and hanging over roads, causing a danger to the public,” said Mr Wilcox.

The leaflets are also available at Info centres, NFU local branches or calling 01432 260946.
