IT wasn’t exactly a contest between a teacher and pupil at Hereford Cathedral Junior School during the Three Counties Show.
But both their families were bidding for glory in some of the best of British livestock classes in the country.
Fortunately they were not after the same championship – one entered an Aberdeen Angus bull, the other a Longhorn.
Pupils at the Junior School, many of whom come from farming families, crossed their fingers and hoped that both teacher Anna Sutton and pupil Mia Price would do well – and both did.
Mia, from Oakchurch, Stauntonon- Wye and herself an accomplished “cattlewoman” was able to report that the family’s Aberdeen Angus bull, Oakchurch Diplomat, was judged to be breed champion.
Anna, from Hendre, near Monmouth, who is head of drama, matched it with the news that her father Frank’s Longhorn bull, known as Tinhorn, had been named as champion of the Longhorn class.
Anna said: “It was a very strong field in both of our classifications, so to be a breed champion is a real achievement.
“Both Mia and I are extremely proud of Diplomat and Tinhorn, and we are both looking forward to defending our titles next year.”
