Tenbury Fodder Sale

NICK Champion, Auctioneer, reports that a short supply of straw met a flying trade as did good quality hay at the Tenbury Collective Sale.

Local farmers were prepared to outbid the Welsh dealers for most of the straw.

The better quality sheep hay was keenly sought after and some excellent prices were realised. Silage and haylage met only local demand.

General prices as follows.

Hay: conventional second quality sold from £2 to £2.80 per bale to average £2.43; round bales first quality sold from £17 to £25 per bale to average £19.23, second quality sold from £12 to £15 per bale to average £13.84, third quality sold from £7.50 to £9.50 per bale to average £9.17; square bales first quality sold at £31 per bale (8’ mini Heston), second quality sold from £17 to £20 per bale (7’ 6” mini heston) to average £18.19, third quality sold at £13 (7’6” mini heston).

Haylage round bales sold from £11 to £14 per bale to average £13.21. Silage round bales sold from £8 to £15 per bale to average £10.92.

Spring barley straw round bales sold from £14 to £16.50 per bale to average £15.61, square bales sold at £24 (7’ 6” mini heston). Winter barley straw: conventional sold at £1.66 per bale, round bales sold at £13.50 per bale, square bales sold at £22 per bale (8’ mini heston). Wheat straw: square bales sold from £23.50 to £27 per bale (8’ mini heston) to average £25.44. Oat staw: round bales sold at £13.50 per bale, square bales sold at £22.50 per bale (7’ 6” mini heston).
