A LOCAL brewery is seeking a supply of malting barley – preferably grown in Shropshire.
Farming and land agents John Amos and Co, from Leominster, have been given the task of finding a source to supply about three tonnes a week for the award-winning Hobsons Brewery, based in Cleobury Mortimer.
The barley is needed for Hobsons brewing process and the emphasis is on good quality.
John Amos, well known to the farming community, plans to host farmers’ meetings in the spring to explain the benefits to interested, potential growers.
Maris Otter has been the king of malting barley for many years and, although considered old-fashioned, its unrivalled quality for malting means it commands a premium price. Seed specialists Robin Appel Ltd are keen to join the quest for “home grown’’stock.
Farmers interested in finding out more about the opportunity should call John Amos on 01568 610007.
