PEOPLE who produce organic eggs will soon have to use fully organic birds to lay them.
At the moment the system allows producers to use part-organic pullets – those that come from conventional systems but raised in accordance with organic feed and animal health systems. That ends in 2012 when egglayers must be fully organic.
Across the border in Wales, producers have already been aware that sourcing true organic pullets is one of their biggest problems.
Organic Centre Wales says it is an important and pressing issue, more people are needed to produce organic pullets.
It is organising two workshops to advise people how to do this and anyone interested can phone 01970 621632 or email jll@aber.ac.uk.
