Increasing oil seed rape pod yield

11:50am Tuesday 30th June 2009

ONE of the problems in growing oil seed rape is how to make the seeds stay in the pods.

As the pods ripen they can split open and deposit their contents on the floor during wet and windy weather and shatter during combining.

Now, a new pod sticker has come on the market, called Iskay, which is said to form a lattice or mesh over the fragile pods, preventing them from splitting when maturing or during dry or rainy conditions.

Makers Interagro UK claim it will increase both yields and oil content.

And a bonus is the fact that less seed drops to the ground, reducing the difficulties and expense in controlling them next year as well as discouraging the slug population.
