Two famous herds triumph at National Hereford Show

THE National Hereford Show Club enjoyed a great line up of Herefords at Tenbury Wells Agricultural Show on Saturday, August 4.

In spite of restrictions over cattle movements, resulting from the Bluetongue disease, more than 50 Hereford cattle were on parade to put on a show for a large crowd gathered from all parts of the UK and continental Europe.

The judge, JJ Farrell, from County Longford in the Republic of Ireland, placed two local cattle as his Supreme and Reserve Supreme Champions.

RA Bradstock & Partners from Tarrington, took the overall championship with Free Town Dictator, a 22-month-old bull.

Richard Bradstock was delighted with taking the championship, following Dictator's success at the Royal in July, where he took the overall junior championship.

RA Bradstock & Partners completed a nap hand by taking the junior male championship with Free Town Eloquent and the Best Groups of 5 & 3 followed by the best pair of calves.

Reserve Supreme was 28-month-old Haven Cavalier, bred by Edward Lewis of EL Lewis & Son, Dilwyn.

The judge stated in the commentary that he would "gladly have taken home both bulls to Ireland", adding that "there was little to choose between two excellent cattle, both were great ambassador to the breed, everything you want in a modern Hereford bull". David Deakin a representative of the Hereford Cattle Society said: "It was very befitting that two famous herds, from the locality, had triumphed at the National Hereford Show on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of Tenbury Wells Agricultural Show."
