THE larger entry at Hereford Market’s spring show and sale of 126 Hereford cross store cattle sired by registered Hereford Bulls sold to a good level of interest, report Hereford Market Auctioneers, with prices well up on last year.
Top head price in the stores was £668 for the first prize pen of 13 month-old steers weighing 475kg and exhibited by M/s PC and PF Rudge.
Other stronger steers, from £550-£650, with yearling steers selling readily to £570 for the pen of 12 and 13 month- olds from Lower Hope Farms, with most selling from £420-£540 (123- 146p/kg). Ten month-old steers at £388.
Hereford heifers sold to £475 for a 375kg registered heifer, with other younger animals from £340-£445.
The first prize pen of heifers came from M/s Cresswell and Oliver and sold to 131p/kg with others from 118- 129p/kg. Ten month-old heifers to £322/137p/kg.
Included in the breeding section was a consignment of 24 month-old registered Hereford heifers, which sold from £488-£640. In-calf registered cows to £800 on two occasions with Hereford cross cows with bull calves at £800 and £900 and cows with heifers at foot £1,000 and £1,015.
The show was sponsored by the Hereford Cattle Society, with judge Mr Robert Thomas, Risbury Court.
