A Blonde d’Aquitaine dam from a herd in Northampton topped the prices for females at the the British Blonde Cattle Society's Spring Show and Sale in Worcester Market when it was bought by a pedigree breeder from Tenbury Wells.
The sale, held for the first time at Worcester, recorded a resounding success with a 90% clearance and a top price of 3,600gns.
The top call came for the male and overall champion Hackleton Achiever, a Hadley Hank son whose EBV included him in the top 10% of the breed from Hackleton Farms’ herd at Northampton. He levelled at 3,600gns being secured by HJ and BJ Read and Sons of Bromyard.
Local breeder Roy Kinnish enjoyed a close and keen following topping his consignment for a first prize winner Kinaston Berkley by the noted Haydens Platinum at 2,600gns to A Faulconbridge and Son, Meriden, Coventry, Warwickshire.
Females were also hotly contested peaking at 1,950gns for Withybrook Sweetheart, a seven year old cow with bull calf at foot from Hackleton Farms going to Phillips of Bockleton, Tenbury Wells, Worcester.
Auctioneer Clive Roads of McCartneys said prices had been very buoyant and sharp reflecting the excellent quality of cattle in all sections.
Averages: 16 Bulls sold to average £2,418.28; one cow and calf, £2,047.50; eight unserved heifers, £1,106.43.
