STORE Cattle - 312: A somewhat different show of cattle forward to what we've seen in recent sales and those quality and good stretchy types were in somewhat limited supply! Nevertheless we still had the steers up to £1160/head for a 560kg Charolais from M/s J J and C I Powell, Tremaen. Several other quality sorts £1000/head plus. Good shaped steers up to 220p/kg with plenty over 200p/kg. The hardest types were those small plain cattle with a bit of age.

Again the heifers were a similar story topping at £1030/head for a nice Limousin from Mr L W Parry, Upper Brechfa. Heifers up to 210p/kg with plenty over 190p/kg. The market overall averages wouldn't be that startling but that is more of a reflection of the type of cattle forward rather than the trade!

Stock/feeding bulls - 11: 11 bulls sold to £1380 for a 5 year old pedigree black Limousin feeding bull to £980 for a 12 month farm assured Limousin cross. Dairy cross bulls from £390 to £810.

Beef type cows/heifers in or with calves - 48: A large entry lacking the strength and quality of recent sales. The best draft of heifers with their summer calves from M/s R A and M Farr sold to good interest from £1220 to £1520 and more of those could have been sold. Other younger sorts from £900 to £1110. Older cows with stronger calves sold to £1380 with better sorts from £950 to £1340. Others again from £600 to £920. Virtually all lots were sold.

Barren/feeding cows - 15: Several well meated sorts on offer selling to £1340 for a 35 month Simmental cross steer, again farm assured. Cows topped at £1120 with 7 of the better types all from £930 to £1090. Meat is everything, on the day the whole of the entry averaged £927/head (136.8p/kg).
