STORE Cattle - 463: A sound entry of stores for the annual show of Hereford cross cattle with a large proportion of these types making up the sale. A good run of Herefords from M/s E J Langford and Son soared to £1290/head for a pair of steers. Those strongest framed Herefords would be in the greatest demand, especially those 450kg+ animals. The Hereford heifers were also a good trade topping at £1030/head for a 580kg heifer from M/s Brewer, Benhall Farm.

Those with length and frame were keenly sought after, the rest as they are.

The continentals were strongly contested topping at £1265/head for the steers and £1160/head for the heifers, again weight and frame was the order of the day. The top 20 prices on the steers were all in excess of £1145/head and the top 20 on the heifers was £955/head. To include all types sold the steers averaged 195p/kg and £910/head and the heifers averaged 188p/kg and £805/head which was remarkable considering all the types forward. There were men forward for those smaller grazing types ensuring a competitive trade throughout.

Stock/feeding bulls - 20: The sale included 7 Hereford stock bulls ranging from 18 months to 5 years old, it was the youngest bull that topped the section at £1350. The others sold from £890 to £1290. Feeding bulls met best interest on the younger sorts - prices ranged from £515 to £1100 with bidders for all shapes and sizes.

Beef type cows/heifers in or with calves - 59 and 29: Highlighted with the dispersal sale of the 'Easthook' herd of pedigree Charolais sold by Howard and Jenny Patrick - they sold to £3160 for lot 1, the homebred heifer 'Easthook Instant' with her January born heifer calf. The remaining 7 cows and/or heifers with their calves sold from £2000 to £2950. 2 in-calf heifers realised £2300 and £2000. 2 maiden heifers sold to £2100 for the lovely July born 'Easthook Jennifer'. The other sold at £1900. The herd sire 'Shraden Georgio' (born November 2011) sold for £2200. 2 other large consignments included pedigree Beef Shorthorn with Shorthorn or Charolais cross calves - they sold from £1200 to £1500.
