STORE Cattle 415: A super entry and yard of cattle for the first sale in June was met by a large crowd of men still keen for cattle with grazing cattle and younger sorts looking exceptionally well sold. Some of the cattle carrying too much flesh which is a common problem in June and these would be harder to place than proper grazing sorts. A shortage of strong stores with a bunch of Limousin steers topping at £1185, other strong feeding steers from £980 to £1080 (180p-190p/kg). Good farming steers with shape well sold and generally £850 to £970 (215p-251p/kg). Younger stores found excellent competition from a crowd of farmers - the better end from £700 to £855 (220p-251p/kg). Very small steers from £450 to £650 (230p-262p/kg). Native bred steers to £990 for a Welsh Black, Herefords to £910.

Other stronger farming steers £700 to £840. Younger sorts £600 to £700. Plainer cattle met good demand, however would trade from £600 to £750 (160p-185p/kg).

Heifers topped at £1120 with more stronger heifers than steers, other strong feeding heifers from £990 to £1100 (190p-209p/kg). Good farming heifers from £850 to £980 (195p-241p/kg) with heifers sold to feed and also to bull. Younger heifers generally £720 to £870 (200p-246p/kg). 8/12 month heifers from £500 to £660 (210p-240p/kg). Plainer heifers £600 to £750 (160p-180p/kg). A good crowd of farmers very fit for smaller grazing cattle and more could have been sold to advantage.

Bulls - 41: More bulls on offer with some well bred suckler bulls ringing the bell. Feeding bulls topped at £970 with most strong bulls from £830-£930 (180p-210p/kg). Smaller well bred bulls from £700 to £800 (200p-226p/kg). Hereford cross bulls were generally older and non-fabbl which doesn't assist, however these were between £530 to £745 (145p-173p/kg). Smaller plainer bulls from £380 to £470 (160p-180p/kg).

Stock bulls - 4: A nice selection of bulls which topped for a homebred Limousin - 20 months with great potential for £2100. A well bred 8 year old Limousin created good interest, eventually being knocked down at £1720. A young pure Blonde bull - £1300 and an older Limousin bull sold at £1240.

Cows and calves/in-calf cows - 44 and 41: Another excellent entry which included an excellent selection featuring Blue heifers and Hereford heifers with calves, older cows and calves and some in-calf pure bred Limousin cows. Heifers and calves topped at £1780 for a Blue heifer with super Limousin bull calf at foot. Other stronger Blue heifers and calves from £1600 to £1700. Hereford cross heifers and calves to £1700 for an outfit with a bull calf. Other stronger Hereford heifers with calves from £1500 to £1680. Smaller heifers and calves from £1250 to £1450. Older cows and calves to £1600 for a strong Limousin second calver with heifer calf, others from the same consignment £1350 to £1550. Other stronger cows and calves £1300 to £1450. Smaller and older cows from £1000 to £1200. The in-calf pure Limousins topped at £1300, with others £1020 to £1200. Next sale includes annual consignment of 23 Limousin and Blue heifers with Limousin calves at foot from R M and G L Watkins, Craswall.

Barren/feeding cows - 13: A similar entry saw cows top at £948, other strong good meat cows from £800 to £885 (115p-136p/kg). Plainer cows from £640 to £665, black and whites from £525 to £575 (83p-102p/kg). More can be sold each sale.

Pigs - 104: A larger entry of pigs which were all sold but emphasis is on quality. We can sell good pigs but struggle with poorer types. There were a lot of in-pig sows which sold from £60 to £136. A sow and 10 pigs sold at £275.

Weaners White from £38 to £40.

Weaners Coloured from £40 to £50.

Stores White from £50 to £60.

Porkers White from £55 to £70.

Cutters White from £30 to £58.

Cutters Coloured from £40 to £58.

Bacon White from £60 to £78.

Feeding Sows from £40 to £65.

Fat Sows from £70 to £120.
