STORE cattle - 498: An excellent entry including many quality stores on offer. Steers sold to £1250 for a 17 month home bred Limousin from M/s W T J and J E Bridgewater with other strong feeding steers regularly from £1050 -£1185. A shortage of strong feeding cattle which is common for the time of year, however strong competition for the strongest sorts. Good farming steers look very well sold throughout with a super show forward. The better sorts from £900-£1050 (220p-246p/kg). Secondary sorts still remain more

difficult to place with out of spec. sorts bought accordingly. Yearling and grazing steers keenly sought after as the grass finally gets in front, these met a larger ring of farmers who have been waiting for the grass. The better yearling cattle from £800-£950 (220p-250p/kg). Smaller sorts from £650-£800 (230p-267p/kg). Native bred cattle short in supply but topped at £1185 for a strong Hereford steer. Other Hereford steers £650-£850 depending on condition and conformation. Angus heifers to £975 with others £700-£850 depending on size.

Heifers topped at £1140 for a Blue cross with other strong types from £1000-£1100. Good farming heifers from £850-£995 (215p-236p/kg). A bunch of pure Limousin heifers topped at £1100 for a group weighing 465kg. Several Blue cross heifers included in the entry with demand for bulling as well as finishing, stronger sorts from £800-£935, smaller and plain Blue cross heifers just feeding money from £740-£850. Yearling and grazing heifers like the steers were met with more men looking and the better sorts trading from £700-£850 (220p-240p/kg). Smaller sorts from £600-£700 (220p-270p/kg).

Plainer heifers again different to place, however still meeting good competition from £400-£550 (165p-200p/kg). More cattle could have been sold with some men going home empty handed.

Bulls - 32: Feeding bulls were mostly good conformation Limousins and sold to £1180 for a pair of 560kg, others from the same farm £950-£1125. Younger quality sorts ranged from 220p-240p/kg being £595-£900. The bulls averaged 215p/kg which included a few Friesians.

Cows and calves - 71: The excellent entry of beef type cows and heifers sold either with or in calf sold to a total clearance topping at £2000 for three different vendors. Firstly Mr E T Greenow who dispersed his Fortress Herd of pedigree Simmentals - selling at £2000 was 'Cornelia', the April 2011 cow with her bull calf, others regularly sold from £1780-£1950, with their stock bull selling for £1750. Other pedigree cattle included 2 strong Charolais heifers, 2 years old that both sold at £1600. A Limousin in-calf heifer sold at £1600. 4 bulling heifers from £880-£1020. Commercial heifers with spring born calves sold to £2000 for British Blue crosses with Limousin bull and heifer calves consigned from both M/s K A and S E Davies and M/s D L and C D Hughes. Other stronger heifers and young cows from £1550-£1980. The draft of 6 black Hereford cross heifers sold to good interest from £1200-£1850 with the 3 year old pedigree Limousin bull at £1800. A pedigree British Blue bull at 26 months sold for £1750, with 2 Herefords from £900-£1300.

Older cows with stronger calves from £1250-£1680. Others from £880-£1020. 2 larger consignments of in-calvers included Limousin cross and Hereford cross heifers PD in calf, 7/8 months - they sold from £1000-£1220, with a pedigree Longhorn 5 months in calf at £980. 10 Blonde cross cows born 2002-2010 and sold in-calf 4/5 months ranged from £830-£1120.

Barren/feeding cows - 14: The barren cows sold well to average 131p/kg topping at £1090 for an 880kg British Blue. Other meated cows 124p-159p/kg being £815-£1000. Feeding cows from £545-£775. More could be sold each sale.

Pigs - 105: Again a larger entry with pigs from both north and south Wales. Fat sows topped at £120, cull boars topped at £120. White bacon gilts £78 to £88, white porkers £50-£60. Much larger entry of stores and weaners led to a more selective trade with white stores from £22 to £38. Coloured stores from £20 to £28 and coloured weaners from £10 to £14.

Weaners White from £10 to £14, Stores White from £22 to £38, Stores Coloured from £ - to £20, Porkers White from £50 to £60, Cutters White from £78 to £88, Cutters Coloured from £70 to £76, Boars from £98 to £120.
