McCARTNEYS report a good entry of store cattle and trade at Kington for their April 5 sale.

We had a successful sale of store cattle at Kington with 100% clearance.

The store cattle trade was good given the ongoing difficult fat cattle trade.

The younger farming cattle would be the best sold and received a good trade with a number of buyers forward looking for growing cattle.

The heavier older cattle over 20 months of age and 550kgs would sell to 215ppk or £1170 per head.

The younger farming cattle under 15 months of age and under 450kgs would sell to 225ppk or £990 per head

The cattle on offer were mixed ages and quality ranging from 280kg to 600kg and from 11 to 24 months of age.

April Cattle prices were as follows;

Steers averaged £2.02ppk up to £2.10ppk for some Blonde cross steers from TJ Pritchard.

Heifers averaged £1.98ppk up to £2.25ppk for some Charolais heifers from SO and JO Alman.

All cattle forward at the sale averaged a good £902 per head.

Steers averaged £1006 per head up to £1170 per head for some Charolais cross Steers from JD Price.

Heifers averaged £820 per head up to £990 per head for some Charolais cross heifers from SO and JO Alman.

Farm assurance is very important on store cattle and premiums were also being paid for those cattle which would meet the super market specs when finished.

In our May sale of Store cattle, feeding bulls, cull cows and cows and calves we expect a good trade and guaranteed support from buyers. We already have a good entry of cattle to hand.

Please note, all cattle over 42 days of age will need to be pre-movement tested for TB purposes within 60 days prior to their movement.

The May sale will be held on May 3 at 11am and entries for the catalogue close on April 26 at 5pm.
