BIGGEST entry of prime hoggets at Builth this season on March 18 with nearly 1800 sheep on parade.

Whilst the magical £100 mark was not achieved we did have two lots at £99.50 from Messrs Davies, Court and Messrs Jones, Carreg Ffynon with JAV Mills and sons, Llanerchllwyd close at £99 (50k).

Other notables were Mrs Gorst, Garden House at £97/50 (53k) for a lot of 30 hoggs and joining part of an excellent consignment from Messrs Morris, Blaenmilo a bunch of 30 hoggs weighing 49 kilos sold at £97. As always this time of year a large variation in the sheep on offer, but plenty of export quality hoggs were around £2 per kilo, with Bill Griffiths, Cellws top at 2016.1 (41k £84/50) Messrs Jones, Carref Ffynon next at 203 (42k £85/20) followed by Messrs Morris, Blaenmilo and Messrs Protheroe, Cwmdulais both nearly 202p (Morris 42k £84/80) (Protheroe 44k £88/80).

Smaller hoggets harder to sell then of late with meat being more important than ever, better pens generally from 170 to 180 pen.

Ewes continue their good trade with insufficient numbers forward.

Builth ewe’s are as dear as anywhere so why waste precious time and fuel when the answer to your cull sheep sales is on your doorstep.
