STORE cattle - 133: A good seasonal entry highlighted with the superb consignment of 42 home bred Limousin x cattle from M/s W T J and J E Bridgewater who sold both the highest price steers and heifers. Steers topped at £1125 for a 21 month at 550kg, with other stronger sorts from £975 to £1115. Throughout the sale younger cattle sold to best

interest from 8/14 months, £720 to £1050.

Heifers sold to £1110 for a choice 18 month Limousin with other stronger sorts from £900 to £1098. Again younger heifers of good conformation always to a keen demand. A total clearance effected on all cattle despite the pressure being felt by finishing customers.

Just 3 bulls on offer, all Herefords selling to £860 for a 20 month and 2 younger bulls at £650 and £710. Only 2 in-calf cows on offer, both Herefords they sold at £840 and £825.

Only 2 barren cows this sale met improved demand selling to £950 for a 725kg Limousin cow in meat and a plain Hereford cow at £475 (89p-131p/kg).

Pigs: A new year brought a far more selective trade throughout, but better than in other markets of recent sales. Fat sows from £58-£70. Boars made up to £60. Quality bacon pigs made from £74-£94. Gloucester Old Spot cutters made from £58-£60. White stores made from £18 to £38 and weaners ranged from £3-£12.
