LAMBS: We had an entry of 1366 lambs which sold to a fairly level trade on the week. The lambs we had on show were generally heavier weights over 46kg with very few pens under this weight. The sale of sheep meat is difficult in the Uk and Europe at present which has resulted due to the strong pound and larger numbers of lambs being born in the UK this year. Heavy lambs over 50kg saw a slight improvement in trade with big lambs selling up to £76 per head.

Well bred and meated but not fat lambs were again achieving market premiums, so it is well worth while selecting the right lambs to sell.

The lambs averaged £1.47ppk and sold up to £1.58ppk.

All the lambs averaged £66 per head up to £76 per head.

Lambs between 25kg and 32kg averaged 1.35ppk up to 1.39ppk.

Lambs between 32.5kg and 39kg averaged 1.40ppk up to 1.46ppk.

Lambs between 39.5kg and 45.5kg averaged 1.48ppk up to 1.58ppk.

Lambs between 46kg and 52kg averaged 1.43ppk up to 1.53ppk.

Lambs over 52kg averaged 1.36ppk up to 1.39ppk.

We are fortunate to have excellent buyer support from six buyers giving excellent competition for the lambs.

Cull ewes, tups, wethers, store lambs: There was a good entry of 326 cull and store sheep, which sold to a good trade on the week. We had a mixed entry with a number of thinner and hill ewes forward. The trade remains very similar and level at present.

We have six excellent buyers in attendance and good competition between them and require more sheep to suffice their demand on a Thursday.

The ewes sold to a top of £100.50 and averaged a good £50 per head.

The cull tups sold up to £79 per head and averaging £72 per head.

Light weight lambs under 36kg were a reasonable trade and they averaged £1.40ppk up to £1.43ppk.

Store lambs also sold to a good trade and averaged £47 per head.

We have buyers requiring light lambs each week to suffice their orders. The cull ewes included a large proportion of thinner mule ewes and smaller hill ewes.

We have buyers for in excess of 3000 lambs and 750 cull sheep per week to meet our buyers' requirements.
