STORE cattle - 508: Second autumn show and sale - A tremendous entry and a trade to follow with a Charolais bullock topping the sale at £1505. Strong steers sold from £1050 to £1400. Quality always sells to a premium and at this sale the best steers ranged from 220p to 264p/kg, the top being a 345kg showy 10 month Blue steer selling at £910. Longer keeping steers, 10/19 months ranged from £820 to £1270. Other steers throughout the sale from £600 to £1050 depending on breed and age. Customers for all sorts and a total

clearance effected. Strong heifers sold to £1265 for a prize pen of Limousin cross weighing 620kg. Other good shaped heifers from 205p to 233p/kg for home bred Charolais cross (540kg) selling for £1260. British Blue cross heifers again good demand with strong sorts from £950 to £1105.

Others to bull from £800 to £835. Younger heifers all selling to demand but easier than more recent sales - prices from £550 to £780. 21 feeding bulls sold to £990 with the younger sorts, five to eight months from £530 to £850 always to best demand and often 220p-250p/kg. 10/14 month from £550 to £855.

Two stock bulls - a pedigree Simmental six year old at £1160 and three year old Hereford at £960.

34 beef type cows/heifers with calves included two dispersals which sold to £1620 for a young Saler cow with her Angus cross heifer calf. Many on offer were older cows with calves from £1040 to £1380. Others from £820 to £970 with a total clearance effected.

23 barren cows sold to £1020 for a well meated 900kg Hereford. All meated cows to a good demand from 112p-144p/kg. Plainer sorts, and there were several, from 65p to average 108.7p/kg for all on offer.

Pigs: Quality finished pigs selling to a very strong trade. Fat sows made from £89- £120 ,cutters made from £92 - £116, porkers made from £50 - £66.

Quality white stores made £34 and weaners made up to £21. As ever, second quality and lean pigs are hard to sell.

Weaners White from £17 to £21, Weaners Coloured from £10 to £12, Stores White at £34, Porkers White from £50 to £66, Cutters White from £92 to £116, Fat Sows from £89 to £120.
