THE largest entry for some years with over 7000 sheep penned at Rhayader Market on October 9.

The excellent catalogue attracted interest from all over the country with stock eventually consigned to Yorkshire, several parts of the West Country and Cornwall as well as all neighbouring counties both sides of the border.

All breeds and ages well spoken for, with the majority of yearlings offered in the first quarter of the sale, improved Welsh selling over £100 and generally from £85 to £95, Speckle Face yearling to £98 and from £80 to £96. A tremendous show of three year Welsh ewes proved easy to despatch with a top price of £88 and a lot of work done between £70 and £85. Four year old Welsh again in excellent demand to a top of £85 and plenty from £60 to £72. Speckle Face threes to £84 with most business done around £70 to £75. Four year old Speckle to £70 and generally £55 to £65. Hardier bred pens from £35 to £55. Plenty of interest at the ewe lamb ring with most pens finding new homes. Welsh to £86, Speckle Face to £72 and Welsh mule to £75.
