THOSE who are part of Herefordshire's cider industry are being sought for a new project telling the story of the famous product.

The Hereford-based Rural Media Company has secured backing from the Heritage Lottery Fund to launch the cider heritage art idea.

Called Golden Fire it will feature a new archive and exhibition of films, photography, oral histories and online content.

It will focus on Herefordshire's cider production heritage from the end of the Second World War to the present day.

Once launched the project will span the whole county as well as being included in a new app that will guide visitors and county residents around the county’s cider producers, festivals and growers.

"We’re very grateful and honoured to have such esteemed figures from the cider community advising on this project,” says Nic Millington, the Rural Media Chief Executive Officer.

"Golden Fire is all about passion, partnership and celebration.

"Herefordshire is the centre of the cider-making world and it’s time we wore our heart on our sleeve.

"This project is all about the deep, rich history of cider-making in the county and sharing that wealth of heritage on the widest possible level.

"We hope that people will come to Herefordshire to see the exhibition, download the app and experience our history, our vibrant present, our exciting future - and enjoy some of the best cider in the world."

A group of cider experts has been formed by Rural Media to advise on the project.

Rural Media is looking for volunteers to contribute their stories and memories of Herefordshire cider - from owners and CEOs through to gatherers and pressers.
