Lambs - A large entry of 1708 lambs saw all buyers keen for numbers and a sharp total clearance to level at an improved 158.63p/kg. Well finished 39-44kg lambs generally over 160p with meated 42-44kg around £70. 35-37kg weights selling well with a number at £60 and over heavies to 164p/kg (£78.80-48kg) for a smart pen of Texel cross from RM Edwards.

Medium weights to 169p/kg (£66- 39.1kg) from E Eynon.

Top price per kilo of 170 pence (£60-35.2kg) for standards from WT and JM Probert. PA and MJ Rymer also making 170p (£55- 32.5kg) to top the lightweights.

Cull sheep - Another good entry of 392 sheep with a top price of £140 for a Texel ram from SC and PW Powell. Suffolk ewes to £90.50 from GJ Sevenoaks and Sons, £89 from C Williams and £86 from Mrs E Attewell. Smaller ewes a little easier with Welsh rams to £73 from M and CM Barton. Wethers to £58.

Store lambs - 124 store lambs, nearly all smaller long keep sorts with ewe lambs to £50 from M and N Smith. Mixed lambs to £46.50 from TS Watkins and ram lambs to £44 from CJ Merrick.

Fodder - One load of 26 round baled wheat straw selling for £240.

Lambs - 1251 lambs maintaining a good trade and another clearance to average 157.56p/kg. 38-44kg lambs to strong demand with a top price of 171p/kg (£65-38kgs) from D and OA Prince, other notable prices included: RAF Thomas (£72.50-44.1kgs), J Leonard (£65.30-39.5kgs), PD Price (£67.20-40kgs), S Lawrence (£73-44.4kgs), WN Waters and Sons (£64.20-38.8kgs), GFW Buckland (£69.80-42kgs).

Lightweights to 164p/kg (£51-31.1kgs) from PA and MJ Rymer. Heavies to 155p/kg (£71.80-46.4kgs) from WG Evans. Top price per head £74 (55.1kgs) from Hale Bros.

Cull sheep - 915 culls to a brisk trade throughout. Heavy ewes to £93.50 from LH Attewell and Partners for Suffolks, £92 for Texels from W Evans, cull rams to £115 from DR and JR Bamborough, Wethers to £84.50 from Hale Bros. A large entry of Welsh ewes including a strong run from J and H Hudd which peaked at £58 and averaged over £50. Plainer ewes a little easier.

Store sheep - 194 stores with ram lambs to £56 from J and N Farming. Smaller ewe lambs to £46.50 from the same home. Despite an entry lacking strength, keen competition was apparent throughout. Breeding rams to £290 and £260 for Charolais yearlings from CH Rees. Texel ram lambs to £230 from CL and NJ Davis.

Calves (10.30am) - A slightly smaller entry of 40 young calves but with a high percentage of beef crosses, there was a nice selection for buyers to choose from.

A very good trade but back off the extreme highs of a couple of weeks ago left both buyers and sellers reasonably content. Top prices of £395 and £390 were obtained for a pair of Blues from WTR and JA Parry while Charolais made to £350 and Limousins to £345.

Heifers reached £335 twice for a Blue from BP and ME Whistance and Sons and a Charolais from HD Hanks and Son. Second string Bulls £250-£275 and Heifers to £200. Best dairy bulls £80-£140 from DJ and R Bennett, middling sorts £40-£60.

Strong calves

An excellent show of 36 found plenty of interest with most exceeding vendors expectations.

Breeding cattle - A small entry of breeding cattle sold to a top of £1230 for a British blue cross cow and Limousin steer calf from AT Jones and Son.

Feeding bulls - 20 forward to include some good quality sorts. A breeding/feeding Angus from MW and EM Egerton sold at £1000 (30mths). Good shaped 9 months old Charolais from SB Morgan made £955. A smart run of 14 month Limousins to £930 and £910 for 13 months Limousins from MJ Morgan.

Stirks/young stores - 18 forward to meet a lively trade with a top of £840 for a smart 10 month Limousin steer from TG and MG Wooff. Mrs EC Powell sold to £755 (Charolais 8mths) and £740 (Limousin 9mths). Heifers peaked at £720 for AC Morgan (11mths British Blue) and £620 for a 10 month old Limousin from LJ and EA Williams.

Store cattle - A tremendous entry of 347 store cattle which included a wide range of quality, age and type.

Top selling steer per head was for a tremendous British blue from HP Griffiths selling at £1390 (27 mths, 765kgs) who also sold a 29mth old Charolais weighing 745kg for £1380. Another British blue, 27 mths 680kg, was next at £1280. JM Bradley sold 22 mths Simmentals (680kg) at £1275 and R Marfell peaked at £1230 for South Devons (27mths 600kgs)

Younger steers also met a strong trade with 17 mths Charolais from HP Griffiths at £1195. 16 mth Charolais at £1120 from M and B Williams. 19 mth at £1140, 16mth £1070 from R Marfell. A grand run of British Blues from DT and JM Goldsworthy peaked at £1075 (15-18mths) with steers at £1070 and £1020. JM Bradley sold 17 mth Simmentals for £1135. Very smart young Limousins from G Walters peaked at £1100 (10mths, 470kgs) with others to £980 (405kgs).

11-15 mth Charolais from PE and SE Morris sold to £895 (360kg, 249p/kg).

Another grand show of heifers sold to a top of £1370 for an outstanding 30 mth old Limousin from T Davies. DG Griffiths and Son sold a run of strong/older heifers to a top of £1280 (Lim, 27mths) and £1250 (Char, 28mths). GA Jenkins and Partners peaked at £1140 for 25 mth Herefords.

Younger keeping heifers met a slightly slower trade with several recent customers missing. Many of the better sorts still made between £900-£1000 including:

JV and RJ Williams £975 (Lims 16mths) and £960. DW Probert £940 and £925 for 14 mths Char. HA Williams and Son 14-16 mth Char at £955 and SG Morgan 12-14 mth £910.

The sale included a large number of 'named sire' Herefords and Angus which continue to sell to a strong demand. Hereford steers from NHG and IM Price sold to £940 (21mth) and WM Evans £845 for 15mths. Angus steers form MWL Evans sold to £995 (16-17mths) and CH Morgan £855 (21 mth). Top selling Angus was £1050 for 23 mth old from DA Thomas and Son.

Cull cattle - 41 cows to another strong trade with a good entry of beef breeds seeing Grade 1 cows averaging £953. Top price £1125 for a very well fleshed Blonde cow from ID Williams. Limousin cows to £1095 from E and N Phillips, Welsh Black cows to £960 from National History Museum, Limousin bulls to £1070 from M Bugler. Grade 1 dairies to average £974 to a top of £1035 and £985 from DL Wilde and Partners.
