NORTH Herefordshire MP Bill Wiggin has objected to a parliamentary visit to a dairy plant.
Mr Wiggin was meant to be visiting an Arla Foods dairy plant in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire with the Dairy All-Party Parliamentary Group.
However, the Conservative member objected and announced he wouldn't take part because he says Arla plans to cut the price they pay their 3,000 British farmers for milk.
“The proposed visit would have been tantamount to supporting this price cut, which I think is unacceptable," he said.
"It is terrible news for dairy farmers across the country that Arla Foods has cut its milk price by over 2p a litre, bringing the standard litre price down to 24.81p
"The move followed an earlier cut to the milk price on 1 December of 1.63p/litre.
"These cuts put extra, and I believe unnecessary, pressures on dairy farmers.
"I felt it was important to speak out and leave the Dairy APPG in no doubt of my feelings on the matter.”
