Clubs gather for horse welfare conference

7:00am Saturday 17th October 2009

British Riding Clubs and the BHS welfare department have joined forces to organise an exciting Equine Welfare Conference, generously sponsored by Equest and Equest Pramox.

The conference is open to BHS and BRC members, with tickets at £5 each. The day will be highly educational, offering delegates current information on the latest aspects of horse care and welfare in the current economic climate.

The conference is to be held at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire on Saturday, October 31, and registration for delegates is at 9.30am.

Among the speakers will be Lee Hackett, Senior Executive BHS Welfare, who will talk about loaning a horse, Stephen Potter will discuss the emotive subject of euthanasia, while Professor Derek Knottenbelt speaks about responsible breeding. Clive Meers Rainger deals with the balance of the foot and basic hoof care and Kate Jones of NAF talks about feeding on a budget.

There will be ample time set aside for questions and answers and the day concludes with a group discussion comprising panel members Prof Derek Knottenbelt, Clive Meers Rainger, Kate Jones and BRC Training chairman Donald Kear.

Mr Hackett said: “We are really excited to be working with BRC for the first time. Collaborating like this means that we will be able to offer all of our delegates a fantastic day and the opportunity to meet like-minded people”.

Senior Executive of BRC, Sarah Phillips, added: “We are grateful for the continuing support Fort Dodge has given us. The Equine Welfare Conference is sure to be a beneficial and educational day for horse owners in the current climate.”

To book, contact Chantal Van Den Broek at c.vandenbroek @bhs.org.uk. Tickets are priced at £5.
